Micro Needling is one of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments available today. The down time is minimal and the results are very noticeable. Micro-needling treatments actually stimulate new collagen formation by "tricking" your body into healing. It is a great procedure for treating fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, uneven skin tone, pigmentation and scars.
Micro Needling Pen
We use a micro needling pen to create very fine perforations on the surface of the skin. Our professional Rejuvapen® device has a powerful motor that drives the needles very rapidly in a vertical up and down motion. This allows a very precise and thorough penetration of the micro needles into the surface of the skin. The pen is far superior to roller type devices that can tear the skin and potentially cause scarring. The micro needling procedure is performed after application of a gentle numbing cream so there is almost no pain associated with the treatment. The very controlled injury created by the pen tricks the body by sending a signal that initiates the healing cascade.
The perforations cause very tiny injuries to the capillary bed leading to pin point bleeding. The local platelets aggregate along these points of injury and become activated, releasing growth factors that attract stem cells to the area. The stem cells can turn into other cells like skin, collagen and blood vessels. The new collagen production can give the skin a much smoother appearance, minimizes fine lines, pigment, pore sizes and even treats acne scars. We recommend doing a series of 3 micro needling treatments a month apart followed by a treatment every 3 to 4 months to maintain the results.
Amplification of Results
The skin rejuvenating effects can be amplified by adding Radiofrequency (RF) energy to the micro needling treatment. We can deliver heat and energy into the skin through the needles to create an even more intense healing response. Devices such as Fractora®, Infini®, Endymed®, Rejuvamatrix® are examples of this combination treatment. The RF Micro needling treatments can give resurfacing results similar to fractional laser treatments with less down time. They can be used to tighten the skin like Ultherapy® but at a lower cost. Topical numbing creams are used to ease the discomfort from the needles and energy.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be combined with either straight micro needling or with the RF micro needling to even further amplify the healing response. The very popular Vampire Facial® is a technique that combines micro needling with PRP. The platelets are applied topically after micro needling and the activated growth factors are absorbed through the tiny perforations. PRP can also be injected into the skin during this procedure to add volume and further skin enhancement.
Q: Does micro needling hurt? A: We use a prescription strength numbing agent that will make the procedure very tolerable.
Q: How deep does the needle go in? A: The needles are called "micro" because they are very tiny. The needles can be set to treat very superficially or can go in as deep as 3.5mm. The deeper the treatment does not necessarily mean better treatment. The needles are used to signal a simulated injury and usually need to only go in less than 1 millimeter. Deeper treatments may be needed if we are treating scars or very deep wrinkles.
Q: When can I see results? A: Because we are stimulating production of new skin and collagen, the results may not be immediate. In fact you may experience some dryness and flaking the first week after the treatment. Most people start to see results after 2 weeks and further improvement can occur for months after the treatment.
Q: Is it bad to do it too often? A: We recommend treatments about one month apart when you are doing an initial series and then every 3-4 months to maintain. Doing it more often will not hurt you, but it may not provide additional benefit. We recommend doing Hydrafacials, microdermabrasions or light chemical peels in between if you want to accelerate the results. Good skin care products such as Vitamin C and growth factors will help you get the most out of your treatment.
Q: Can I just use a roller or a needling pen that is sold for home use? A: Devices sold directly to the consumer for home use do no penetrate past the epidermis. While they may help to exfoliate, they are not be as effective in sending the signal to initiate the healing cascade.
Q: How often should I get the PRP with the micro needling? A: A "Vampire Facial" every 3 to 4 months will make your skin look amazing! You can also do a Vampire Facial a couple times a year and have straight micro needling treatments in between.
Q: How much do you charge? A: Our micro needling treatment is $299 for one treatment. A package of 3 treatments is $699 Our Vampire Facial or RF micro needling starts at $899 per treatment.
Q: Who performs the treatments? A: Microneedling is performed in our office by an aesthetician, nurse or technician certified to perform the treatment by the AAEG. The PRP treatments are performed by the doctor or the registered nurse. Omni Aesthetics is a national training center for micro needling and Vampire® PRP procedures.
